This month, we hosted the Olympics, complete with a “50-yard dash,” a shot put contest and the revered torch.

But we weren’t in Rio. We were at our headquarters in Tampa, Florida participating in WellCare Health Plan’s annual Compliance Week—an interactive, week-long event created to engage, educate and energize WellCare’s associates on compliance matters.

This year, Compliance Week was modeled on the upcoming 2016 Olympic Games.

It is not only a fun, annual tradition, but one of the many tools we use to help promote ethical conduct; to reinforce WellCare’s culture of compliance; and to maintain high standards of integrity and professionalism as we work with providers, and federal and state governments to improve the health of low-income children and families, the disabled and the elderly.

Building a Culture of Compliance

Managed Care is highly regulated and involves complex questions on critical topics that impact everyone from newborns to seniors.  Our compliance program promotes ethical conduct in all aspects of our operations and outlines our compliance obligations with applicable federal and state laws, regulatory requirements and standards.

The core objective of our Compliance Week activities is to engage and educate associates on compliance issues relevant to their jobs in an entertaining and interactive way. In doing so, we continue to reinforce the strong culture of compliance that we have established and reinforce the importance of each associate’s role in maintaining compliance

Our theme this year built around the seven essential elements of an effective compliance program and how WellCare incorporates these elements into our compliance program. The Compliance Week Olympic games celebrated an integrated culture of compliance and ethics across our organization.

As the health care industry continues to face new compliance challenges, the execution of a fun and interactive Compliance Week is one creative way that organizations can shine a spotlight on training to raise awareness and build a strong compliance culture.
