That’s Why I Came! [Live from Managed Care]

I admit it, as a compliance professional who hasn’t been doing this work for that long, I really needed to hear that I’m on the right track in my work.  One thing that has bothered me since my first compliance job is reconciling the need to be objective while balancing the real world demands of a small entity in which everyone wears multiple hats and people genuinely want to help each other succeed.

In ‘How to Engage Your Business Partners to Embrace Compliance,’ I got what I was looking for when I heard that, in small organizations, maintaining boundaries can be harder because of resource issues and where the expertise lies.  I learned that I can get even small departments to take responsibility for their own policies and their own monitoring and it’s okay for me to be their subject matter expert. Building the relationship first does not mean you lack objectivity.  It increases my credibility with the business, makes me a good steward of my organization’s resources, capitalizes on my long prior experience as a clinician, and makes the business much more likely to engage with me.  Thanks, HCCA!
