Speed Networking

I had heard about, but never done, speed networking. I always thought it was kind of hokey and a close relative to the concept of speed-dating, which has never appealed to me, since I am married. But I have made a personal commitment this year to try new things, have an open mind, and avoid preconceptions that limit growth. So when speed networking was offered by the SCCE at the Institute this year, I made it a priority to try it.

It was well run by a gentleman with a loud voice from Chicago. The time went by quickly. In an hour (almost exactly) I met and spent quality time with 6 people from all over the country who enjoy ethics and compliance as much as I do. Everyone had a unique perspective on our profession, and it was very mind-opening to realize there are many career paths open to all of us. Furthermore, everyone was able to relate to my experiences in creating and teaching ethics programs. I can honestly say that it has made me realize how much I enjoy meeting new people and sharing common concerns. It is pretty much a given that I will sign up for speed networking again at the next SCCE Institute.
