My First Time

This is my first time at the HCCA national conference and I am very impressed. I have attended two sessions so far, Emerging Compliance Issues and Hacked and Attacked. Both happened to discuss the recent trend in Ransomware attacks and phishing attacks.

It is scary how quickly Ransomware and phishing attacks have occurred within the healthcare community. This is a booming business for the bad guys and the bad guys are winning, and getting paid big bucks in the process. Hospitals need become diligent in educating their staff on these types of emerging threats.

Would you think that plugging in your iPhone to a work computer to listen to music or charge it could infect the whole network? No, well guess again. This is just one way that we can give the bad guys access to our servers and networks. I don’t know about you, but I would never have thought I could have potentially threatened our hospital system by listening to George Strait.

This is a brave new world we are in and I’m not sure what the future holds for us in healthcare.
