Hey SCCE, will you be watching?

Well-known leaders will be debating right and wrong, in a real life, real-time contest that boils down to this: is the so-called “rogue” an evil person, or completely self-centered, or merely misguided by his own personal ethic.

OK, I’m not talking about the Presidential debate tonight, which (thankfully?) conflicts with the Annual Awards Dinner. Instead, I’m recommending the discussion happening on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 at the SCCE Compliance and Ethics Institute, when Amy McDougal, Heather Reilly Powell and I will discuss “The Good Reasons Why People Do the Wrong Things” (Session 602, Chicago Ballroom VI).

In an interactive format, we will be looking more closely at the tough “right versus right” decisions that Francesca Geno talked about this morning. Our focus will be the caring employees, driven by a strong personal ethic, who face a dilemma and make the wrong choice – like the former soldier, who wants to protect “his unit” in the workplace, or the teacher, who values care for her student above all else.

These personalities are actually in every workplace. To have an effective, inclusive compliance program, we need to understand the thoughts and motivations of these good people who do bad things for good reasons. I hope you’ll be there, and join in our discussion.
