I was fortunate enough to kick off my conference experience this morning while in the elevator ride down to the registration counter. During this brief ride I met Sheryl Vacca, SVP/Chief Comp & Audit Officer, University of CA, and had an unexpected yet informative and engaging discussion related to Higher Education Compliance. While I have heard Sheryl present on several occasions at the Health Care Compliance Association’s Annual Compliance institute, I have never had the pleasure to meet her. Her willingness to engage in this short unexpected dialogue first thing in the morning, is a testament to this conference and the varied expertise walking the halls (I truly didn’t know at the time that Sheryl was introducing the speakers at the General Session today).
Our short discussion hit on the topic of just how much Higher Education Compliance Programs mirror that of Health Care Compliance Programs of 15 years ago and the challenges presented to our institutions today.
This was a great way to kick off the conference for me and get me excited about this learning opportunity over the next few days.
I look forward to what I will learn over the next few days as well as the people I will meet.
