As a first time attendee of the HCCA Research Compliance Conference, I can truly say my experience was better than I imagined. I am pleasantly surprised that I will be taking away not only a breadth of knowledge from the very skilled presenters, but also from my research colleagues from across the country and from varying institutions.

After only the first day of the conference, I have had meaningful discussions with others in my field on how they approach contractual terms in clinical trial agreements, how they deal with Medicare issues, and how they implement new compliance policies. None of these issues are by their nature “cut and dry,” and such discussion with a vast and knowledgeable group of individuals yielded perspectives and insight that I had never before considered. I am thrilled to take these perspectives back to my Institution.

Most importantly, the conference has reminded me of the important role I play in the realm of research. In negotiating clinical trial agreements, I am a voice not only for my Institution, but for research subjects participating in studies. With the greater understanding I have of research compliance and ethics issues, I am confident that I will leave this conference better equipped to provide an effective voice to research participants.
