I attended the Designing and Executing an Effective Higher Education Compliance Program with limited resources breakout session of which I loved that Compliance departments throughout the US are committed to enhancing culture and becoming Servant Leaders! With this commitment as the first priority of a effective compliance program, everyone wins!

Eliminating the barriers and the perception of the police dept., will allow all departments to support compliance and want to do the right things. Let’s make it fun! We have implemented this approach for the past 4 years; however, everyday this needs to be a focus. We call ourselves, the CARE team instead of compliance…CARE = Compliance, Audit, Risks, and Ethics. Why? We needed a softer approach to take a baby step towards helping folks come to us and understand that we are here to help. We also practice Servant Leadership, which supports all folks.

Digging into the 7 elements was also beneficial because it helped me realize that there is a need to expand the risk assessment to all departments. Now, we will begin using HECA Compliance Matrix to review the 37 areas. As we review these 37 areas and learn, we will first build relationships, then train, coach, and empower folks to manage compliance.
