As I embark on my first year in compliance (literally, in 2 days) I have already learned so much and have an excitement about dedicating my time to cultivating a compliant atmosphere in my organization. Now that I have had the pleasure of attending the HCCA Managed Care Conference, I have an insatiable desire to become a champion of compliance as well as get my personal MCO on board to be excited about compliance.

Meeting the other individuals in my position here has really given me the confidence that with the right attitude and determination engaging those around me is not hopeless. I’ve learned invaluable lessons about how to get better organized and engage business owners to be their own compliance champions for their specific departments. My organization is one of the little guys and I find that even myself would fall back on the terms “I don’t think we’re big enough for that” which I’ve learned in this conference is a poor answer, while we may not have the capacity for some of the technology that other MCO’s utilize we certainly have the resources to place ourselves in a position to better use the technology we already have.

A few of the key notes I will be taking back to my organization is to make compliance captivating and maybe even a little bit FUN! Special thanks to Deborah Johnson, Nichole Huff, Michaela Monaghan, and Maggie Peritt for their enthusiasm and drive and sharing that with me!
